Christine Manfield is a highly regarded Australian chef, author, food and travel writer, food manufacturer, presenter, teacher and gastronomic traveller whose culinary work draws on the exciting tastes and flavours of many cultures, whose passion and commitment to culinary excellence are world renowned.
Christine’s expansive work portfolio as an Australian culinary ambassador reveals a range of diverse culinary projects that give focus to an uncompromising belief in the complementary and sustaining nature of good food, wine, people, pleasure and learning.
Christine has published eight acclaimed and award winning books with Lantern Penguin Australia (see BOOKS) with future works underway. She has also had material published in several cooking anthologies and collections and her work has featured in Australian, Indian, European and American culinary magazines. She has written food columns and travel features for Australian newspapers and magazines.
Christine travels regularly as a culinary ambassador for Australia’s diverse gastronomy and continues to work on various global projects within her expansive portfolio.
Christine’s love of spices and her understanding of the home cook’s need for authentically flavoured, simple yet sustaining food choices led her to create and develop the Christine Manfield Spice Collection range of spice pastes and condiments (see PRODUCTS) available across Australia.
Her working life as a restaurateur spanned more than 2 decades - with Paragon and Phoenix in Sydney (1990-1993), Paramount in Sydney (1993 – 2000), East @ West in London’s Covent Garden (2003 -2005) and Universal in Sydney (2007-2013) (see RESTAURANTS).
Christine also hosts regular luxury bespoke gastronomic travel adventures to exotic locations including India, Morocco, Africa, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, France and South East Asia (see TRAVEL), working with Jennifer Wilkinson of Epicurious Travel.
Christine’s philanthropic work covers a broad spectrum. In Australia she supports the Cathy Freeman Foundation and is an ambassador for Oz Harvest and Artisans of Fashion. Since 2008, Christine has been a mentor and judge for Electrolux Appetite for Excellence Young Restaurateur of the Year and also mentors young female apprentices through the NSW Tasting Success program. She has appeared as a guest chef and judge on Masterchef Australia, Series 2 (2010), Series 3 (2011), Series 4 (2012) and Junior Masterchef2010.
